The political aspects of James DeMonaco’s “The Purge” films get pushed to the fore in the upcoming third entry in the series “The Purge: Election Year”. Releasing its first trailer today, the new film is set in Washington D.C. and sees the return of the second film’s star Frank Grillo.
In this outing he takes on a new job – bodyguard to a presidential nominee (Elizabeth Mitchell) whose campaign is built on eliminating the Purge initiative. Those in power see her as a threat and plan to have her assassinated during the Purge – so Grillo’s character must keep her alive during the one night of the year when many want her dead and can get away with it. “The Purge: Election Year” opens on the July 4th weekend.
