Attempting to adapt Stephen King’s sprawling fantasy saga “The Dark Tower” seems like a fool’s errand. At eight books and 4,250 pages – not to mention all the way plenty of King’s other books relate to the story – immense isn’t a word big enough to cover it.
Years of attempts were made to try and adapt the work as a combination film trilogy and TV series, often to no avail, until finally comes a single film version that tries something different – something that serves more as a standalone sequel to the saga than a direct adaptation.
King previously has said what they’re attempting here may not necessarily work but it’s “a good way to try and to get into these stories” and he’s 100% behind the project. Matthew McConaughey and Idris Elba star in the Nikolaj Arcel-directed film which opens on August 4th and today, finally, the first trailer has arrived.
