First Trailer: Spielberg’s “Ready Player One”

Immediately following its premiere at the Warner Bros. Pictures panel at San Diego Comic Con, the first trailer has arrived for Steven Spielberg’s adaptation of Ernest Cline’s novel “Ready Player One”.

The story set in a virtual world called Oasis in which a teenager (Tye Sheridan) finds himself competing in a treasure hunt against ruthless foes after the enigmatic founder (Mark Rylance) of the game dies and offers his fortune as the grand prize.

Olivia Cooke, Lena Waithe, T.J. Miller and Ben Mendelsohn co-star in the film which will incorporate a bunch of 1980s references and easter eggs, except for Spielberg’s own filmography which is being avoided. The clip shows characters and vehicles from “Akira,” “Back to the Future,” “A Nightmare on Elm Street,” and “The Iron Giant” with Spielberg himself saying The Iron Giant is a big part of the film.

The film opens March 30th next year.
