One of the best thrillers of recent years, Denis Villeneuve’s “Sicario,” gets a follow-up with the first trailer for “Sicario 2: Soldado” having just gone online.
Benicio Del Toro, Josh Brolin and Jeffrey Donovan reprise their roles and while Emily Blunt and Daniel Kaluuya are out, Catherine Keener and Matthew Modine have hopped onboard the new film in which Del Toro’s undercover operative Alejandro Gillick and Brolin’s CIA agent Matt Graver re-team to bring down a cartel smuggling terrorists across the U.S./Mexico border.
Behind the camera Villeneuve has been replaced with rising filmmaker Stefano Sollima (“Suburra,” “Gomorrah: The Series”), while beloved cinematographer Roger Deakins has been switched out with Dariusz Wolski who has served as Ridley Scott’s cinematographer on all his films since their first teaming on “Prometheus”.
Acclaimed Taylor Sheridan returns to script the project and when previously discussing the film says the follow-up has both a much bigger scope and is both more severe, emotional and brutal. “Sicario 2: Soldado” opens June 29th.
