Netflix has premiered the first trailer for “The Politician,” the first series of their mega-million dollar deal with “American Horror Story,” “American Crime Story” and “Glee” creator Ryan Murphy.
Murphy, Brad Falchuk and Ian Brennan created the story for the series about Santa Barbara student Payton Hobart (Ben Platt) who since the age of seven has wanted to be the President of the United States. But to get there, he must first navigate the most treacherous political landscape of all: Saint Sebastian High School.
Murphy says the show is about: “wealthy people behaving badly… all of this has been percolating in the culture, particularly under this president and this idea of Ivanka [Trump] and Jared [Kushner as] the sort of satanic poster boy and girl for privilege and nepotism. [However] it’s not a show on current U.S. politics. It’s more about the phenomenon of what it takes to be a politician and how much of yourself you have to sacrifice to be a good one.”
Should it be renewed, subsequent seasons will show his continuing quest to become a politician Gwyneth Paltrow, Lucy Boynton and Zoey Deutch (“The Disaster Artist”) also star in the eight-episode series which will start streaming on September 27th.
