By the end of the Sundance Film Festival this year, two movies emerged as what looked like serious awards contenders in the eyes of critics – with both quickly snapped up by distributors for big amounts. One was Nate Parker’s “Birth of a Nation” which has had its awards hopes somewhat dashed, or at least muted, due to recent media reports.
The other was “Margaret” director Kenneth Lonergan’s latest film “Manchester By The Sea” which remains on track for a November 18th opening. Casey Affleck stars as an uncle who is forced to take care of his 16-year-old nephew after the boy’s father dies. Michelle Williams, Kyle Chandler and Lucas Hedges also star in the project which got its first trailer today:
