Following his success with “Birdman,” filmmaker Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu set their sights on the gritty period survival drama “The Revenant”. One thing that makes the project so unique is the gruelling and extended filming schedule due to Inarritu and cinematographer Emmanuel Lubezki’s desire to only shoot using natural lighting – as a result they could only actually film a couple of hours a day at most.
Leonardo DiCaprio plays explorer Hugh Glass who is brutally attacked by a bear and is both betrayed left for dead by members of his own hunting team. Guided by sheer will and the love of his family, Glass must navigate a vicious winter in a relentless pursuit to live and find redemption.
Today comes the first trailer, a wordless piece set mostly to heavy breathing. Tom Hardy, Domhnall Gleeson and Will Poulter also star in the movie which hits cinemas in limited release at Christmas before going wide on January 8th.
