HBO has premiered the first teaser trailer for its new comedy series “The Righteous Gemstones” which hails from the team behind “Vice Principals” and “Eastbound and Down”.
The story follows a world-famous televangelist family with a long tradition of deviance, greed, and charitable work. John Goodman stars as patriarch Eli Gemstone, a renown preacher known for his weekly television show, global ministries and aggressive salvation techniques.
Danny McBride plays his eldest son Jesse, a man looking to branch out on his own by adapting his father’s famous teachings for a modern audience. Adam DeVine is Jesse’s son, Kelvin, who has a rebellious nature all his own.
Walton Goggins recurs as Baby Billy, a former child star who’s fallen on hard times. Edi Patterson, Cassidy Freeman, Tony Cavalero, Tim Baltz, and Greg Alan Williams also star.
McBride writes, directs, and executive produces the series alongside Jody Hill and David Gordon Green. The series premieres in August.
