First Photos: “The Magnificent Seven” Remake

Sony Pictures and MGM have released the first official photos from Antoine Fuqua’s upcoming remake of the classic western “The Magnificent Seven”.

The original, itself a remake of Akira Kurosawa’s 1954 classic “Seven Samurai,” followed seven outlaws, bounty hunters, gamblers and hired guns who are brought together by a group of desperate townspeople to protect them from a nasty group of bandits.

The new take, which boasts a script by Nic Pizzolatto (“True Detective”) and Richard Wenk (“The Equalizer”), changes it up a bit with the villain being an industrialist named Bartholomew Bogue (Peter Sarsgaard) who has the townspeople under his deadly control.

Denzel Washington, Chris Pratt, Vincent D’Onofrio, Ethan Hawke, Byung-Hun Lee, Manuel Garcia-Rulfo and Martin Sensmeier play the titular seven while Haley Bennett, Matt Bomer, Billy Slaughter and Vinnie Jones also star. The film opens September 23rd.
