The first day of production got underway in Dubrovnik, Croatia today on “Robin Hood: Origins,” the new take on the Sherwood Forest outlaw starring Taron Egeron in the title role. Heaps of photos from the filming can now be found at The Dubrovnik Times.
Described as a “Batman Begins”-esque gritty origin reboot story, the action-adventure film follows the war-hardened Crusader (Egerton) and a Moorish commander (Jamie Foxx) who mount an audacious revolt against the corrupt English crown. Jamie Dornan, Eve Hewson, Ben Mendelsohn and Paul Anderson also star.
The scenes being shot certainly indicate the Crusades element is coming into play. Shooting around Dubrovnik’s harbour area, Egerton and Hewson were spotted exchanging a gentle kiss for the cameras and over a thousand extras. Filming will run in the city through until the 6th of March for what is most expensive film production ever to take place in the city says the reps (oddly no mention of “Star Wars: The Last Jedi”). If the locale is familiar, it has also been used for scenes in HBO’s “Game of Thrones”.
Otto Bathurst (“Peaky Blinders”) helms from a script by Joby Harold. Harold, Leonardo DiCaprio, Tory Tunnell, Basil Iwanyk and Jennifer Davisson Killoran produces the film which opens March 23rd 2018.
