The first photos are out from BBC Studios and Masterpiece PBS’s new six-part event series adaptation of Victor Hugo’s classic novel “Les Miserables”. The new take is based on the original novel and not the iconic 1980 musical of the same name.
The project stars Dominic West (“The Wire”) as Jean Valjean, David Oyelowo (“Selma”) as Inspector Javert, Lily Collins (“Mirror Mirror”) as Fantine, Josh O’Connor (“God’s Own Country”) as Marius, Ellie Bamber (“Nocturnal Animals “) as Cosette, Erin Kellymanas (“Solo: A Star Wars Story”) as Eponine, Joseph Quinn (“Dickensian”) as Enjolras, and both Adeel Akhtar (“Four Lions”) and Olivia Colman (“Broadchurch”) as Monsieur and Madame Thenardier.
Andrew Davies is adapting the script which explores the many layers of Valjean and Javert’s cat-and-mouse relationship, set against the epic backdrop of France at a time of civil unrest. Tom Shankland is directing.
