Filming has wrapped on the eight-part event series “Das Boot,” a $32 million remake of the iconic 1980s Wolfgang Petersen film and mini-series which itself was based on Lothar-Günther Buchheim’s bestselling novel.
Vicky Krieps (“Phantom Thread”), Tom Wlaschiha (“Game Of Thrones”), Lizzy Caplan (“Masters Of Sex”), Vincent Kartheiser (“Mad Men”) and James D’Arcy (“Marvel’s Agent Carter”) lead the cast of the project which boasts 79 actors and nearly 1,000 extras across its two intertwined narratives.
Set in the Fall of 1942, one story follows the crew of the German submarine U-612 which is ready for its maiden voyage. As the 40 young men take on their first mission, they struggle with the cramped and claustrophobic conditions of life underwater.
The second storyline takes place in the port of La Rochelle where Simone Strasser (Krieps) becomes engulfed in a dangerous liaison and forbidden love. Tony Saint and Johannes W. Betz penned the new take on the story which is a co-production of Bavaria Fiction, Sky Deutschland and Sonar Entertainment.
Andreas Prochaska helms the project which recently wrapped shooting in Malta and will incorporate German, French, and English languages. Sky is planning a late 2018 broadcast.
