FX has unveiled the first photos from their forthcoming nine-episode limited series “Mrs. America” including a first look at the star-studded ensemble cast.
The series will tell the true story of the rise of feminism through the eyes of Phyllis Schlafly (Cate Blanchett), who led the backlash to the work of second-wave feminists like Gloria Steinem and others. Schlafly waged a campaign against the passage of the Equal Rights Amendment as well as against the legalization of abortion and the gay rights movement.
The series explores how one of the toughest battlegrounds in the culture wars of the 1970s helped give rise to the ‘Moral Majority’ and forever shifted the political landscape. Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck are set to serve as executive producers and will be directing the first two episodes.
The series also stars Rose Byrne as Gloria Steinem, Sarah Paulson as Alice, James Marsden as Phil Crane, Uzo Aduba as Shirley Chisholm, John Slattery as Fred Schlafly, Margo Martindale as Bella Abzug, Ari Graynor as Brenda Feigen-Fasteau, Melanie Lynskey as Rosemary Thomson, Tracey Ullman as Betty Friedan, Jeanne Tripplehorn as Eleanor Schlafly, Kayli Carter as Pamela, and Elizabeth Banks as Jill Ruckelshaus.
