Ahead of the first full trailer going online in a few hours, the first photos are out from Andy Serkis’ “Mowgli,” the upcoming new adaptation of Rudyard Kipling’s “The Jungle Book” for Warner Bros. Pictures.
The new film promises to be distinctly different from Jon Favreau’s recent Disney Pictures version. That film was essentially a live-action kid filmed on green screen in an otherwise all CG animated feature remake of the 1960s cartoon based on Kipling’s story and toned down to make it safe for the kids.
Serkis’ version, in contrast, boasts more real locations, a different focus and a much darker and more accurate to the book take on the work with actors like Christian Bale, Cate Blanchett, Benedict Cumberbatch and Serkis himself employing motion-capture tech to bring the novel’s creature characters to life.
The film opens in October.
