The first photos have been released from the 1980s-set female wrestling comedy “G.L.O.W.” which Netflix will premiere on its service on June 23rd.
“Community” and “Mad Men” star Alison Brie leads the cast of the series as Ruth Wilder, a struggling and out-of-work actress who eventually goes on to create the first-ever women’s wrestling TV show.
The ten-episode series hails from “Orange Is the New Black” creator Jenji Kohan while “Nurse Jackie” producers Liz Flahive and Carly Mensch serve as co-showrunners. The project is inspired by the real “GLOW” series which ran from 1986 to 1990. Despite the real life inspiration, Brie’s Ruth character is fictionalized.
Other cast mates include Marc Maron and Betty Gilpin. Maron plays a washed-up, B-movie director who now must lead this group of women. Gilpin plays a former soap actress who left show business to have a baby, only to be sucked back into work.
