At last, the primary villain of Marvel’s “Avengers: Age of Ultron” has been revealed. The cover of this week’s Entertainment Weekly gives us a first look at the robot Ultron as he’ll appear in the upcoming “The Avengers” sequel.
The publication has also teased some major plot points regarding the character. Tony Stark creates Ultron (James Spader), a self-aware, self-teaching, artificial intelligence designed to help assess threats, and direct Stark’s Iron Legion of drones to battle evildoers. There’s one problem. Ultron lacks empathy and his superior intellect quickly determines life on Earth would go a lot smoother if he just got rid of humans.
Joss Whedon says: “Ultron sees the big picture and he goes, ‘Okay, we need radical change, which will be violent and appalling, in order to make everything better’; he’s not just going ‘Muhaha, soon I’ll rule’. He’s on a mission, he wants to save us.”
