With production well underway on the ten-episode first season of Starz’s “American Gods,” a new photo has been released by the network and FremantleMedia North America through EW and shows off a first look at actor Bruce Langley as Technical Boy.
Based on the Neil Gaiman novel, the story follows a war brewing between old and new gods: the traditional gods of mythological roots from around the world steadily losing believers to an upstart pantheon of gods reflecting society’s modern love of money, technology, media, celebrity and drugs.
Technical Boy is one of those newer ones and feeds off of humanity’s devotion to the internet. Showrunner Bryan Fuller talked about coming up with the look of the character:
“We needed to establish a frame of reference for the aesthetic of the Technical Boy, and [director] David Slade, I believe, was the first one to say ‘Commodore 64’. That will mean more to the audience once they understand more of the Technical Boy’s story – why the Commodore 64 and that era of technology is so informative for the look of him and the story and the general aesthetic when we first sample his world.”
In related news, The Live Feed reports that comedian Dane Cook has joined the series in the role of Robbie, best friend to the lead character Shadow Moon (Ricky Whittle). Robbie promises to hold Shadow’s job for him while he’s in prison and is married to Audrey, the best friend of Shadow’s wife, Laura (Emily Browning).
