Genevieve O’Reilly’s return to the role of Mon Mothma, which she played in the “Star Wars” prequels, has been a central part of the marketing campaign for “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story”. However, there’s one other character confirmed to also be returning that hasn’t been seen in any promotional material thus far – Princess Leia’s adoptive father Bail Organa.
Jimmy Smits played the role in the prequels, a senator in the Republic, and basically confirmed back in August that he’s returning. Today, a first real look at Bail’s return in Rogue One from a photo of the latest issue of US Weekly.
Bail’s wardrobe is more toned down than it was in the prequels, and the actor says in the accompanying quote that his character “isn’t as high up the political food chain” as he once was. Bail is involved with the Rebels at this point in time and the shots look like they come from the Yavin IV Rebel base sequence. Smits’ role is only expected to be a cameo.
