An adaptation of M.L. Stedman’s acclaimed novel, filmmaker Derek Cianfrance’s third feature “The Light Between Oceans” follows on from both “Blue Valentine” and “The Place Beyond the Pines”.
This time he swaps out Ryan Gosling with Michael Fassbender in the lead role of a lighthouse keeper and his wife (Alicia Vikander) and the moral consequences they must face when they find a two-month-old girl and a dead body in a rowboat off the west coast of Australia during the first World War.
The pair, whose three previous attempts at having a child met with tragedy, decide to raise the baby as their own. Years later, returning to the mainland, their choice has had a devastating effect on one of them. Rachel Weisz also stars in the film which has yet to lock a release date.
