Footage is finally here at last from the new season of “Doctor Who” with Jodie Whittaker taking over the role of The Doctor following the exit of Peter Capaldi at Christmas.
Marking the biggest changing of the guard on the show since 2010, the new season sees “Broadchurch” creator Chris Chibnall taking over as showrunner. Bradley Walsh, Tosin Cole and Mandip Gill serve as the Doctor’s new companions.
One change with Whittaker is a new approach which allows this to be a great entry point for newcomers. Whereas Capaldi’s episodes referenced classic ‘Who’ heavily, the new ones avoid it with none of the old villains appearing in the new series – it’s “all new stories, all new monsters, all new villains” says Chibnall.
The new season is slated to kick off this Fall on The BBC in the UK and BBC America in the US. Ten episodes in all are set to air, though these will all run a few minutes longer than previous seasons.
