Fincher’s “Utopia” Officially Dead At HBO

So much for the reprieve. HBO and David Fincher are reportedly unable to reach a compromise on the size of the budget for Fincher’s conspiracy thriller remake of the British cult TV series “Utopia” says Deadline.

As a result, the cast has been officially released by the network. HBO retains the rights to the project as well so Fincher cannot take the project somewhere else such as Netflix. The network may push on with a potential new director, but no decision about its continuation has yet been made.

Though never confirmed, the cast was reportedly said to include the likes of Rooney Mara, Colm Feore, Eric McCormack, Dallas Roberts, Jason Ritter, Brandon Scott and Agyness Deyn with the actors said to have been rehearsing for up to a month with Fincher and writer Gillian Flynn.

It is unclear how the fallout will affect Fincher’s other HBO project, the 1980s comedy “Videosynchrazy,” whose production was halted for additional script work.
