David Fincher and Robert Towne are attached to a proposed prequel TV series to Roman Polanski’s 1974 film classic “Chinatown” currently in early development at Netflix.
Towne won the Oscar for his script for the original which starred Jack Nicholson as Jake Gittes, a private investigator who is originally hired to expose an adulterer, and soon becomes embroiled in a much larger and far more unsavoury plot.
Faye Dunaway co-starred while the late Robert Evans produced the film which became a box office and critical hit. Nicholson and Towne returned for the 1990 sequel “The Two Jakes”.
Towne will pen the script for the prequel series which will focus on the exploits of a young Jake during his early days as an investigator. Fincher has worked with Netflix on several series, most notably “House of Cards” and “Mindhunters,” and recently directed the upcoming Netflix film “Mank” starring Gary Oldman.
