David Fincher has signed on to direct “Mank,” a biopic revolving around “Citizen Kane” screenwriter Herman Mankiewicz and Fincher’s first feature film since 2014’s “Gone Girl”
Gary Oldman has been tapped to play the titular role in the film which is based on a script by Fincher’s late father, Jack, who penned it prior to his death in 2003.
The story will reportedly follow Mankiewicz’s tumultuous development of the ‘Kane’ script alongside director Orson Welles. Despite its critical success, the script was the only part of the film to win an Oscar.
The film will also be shot in black and white, with shooting to begin in November. Fincher will produce with Cean Chaffin and Douglas Urbanski. Fincher has primarily worked in television in recent years.
