Premium cabler (and Lionsgate’s new subsidiary) Starz is developing “Ascendant,” a drama TV series based on the “Divergent” franchise.
The project is being penned by Adam Cozad (“Tarzan,” “Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit”), directed by Lee Toland Krieger (“The Age Of Adaline”) and executive produced by both.
Both had been attached to write and direct the proposed fourth and final film in the series, a project that fell through after the third film “Allegiant” flopped badly at the box-office.
Lionsgate opted not to proceed with a fourth movie, with plans to continue the franchise on television with a TV movie and spinoff series. The film’s stars like Shailene Woodley, Theo James and Ansel Elgort, are not expected back.
