Filth Proves Filthy Rich In Scotland

The James McAvoy-led “Filth” has been a major hit in Scotland where this adaptation of author Irvine Welsh’s cult novel is first bowing.

The very naughty film took the top spot this past weekend with around $403,390 (£250,000) in box-office. McAvoy stars in the darkly comic thriller as a crooked drug-addict cop.

Doesn’t sound like much? To put it in comparison, that’s better than the openings of McAvoy’s other films like “X-Men: First Class” and “Wanted”. It’s also more than the $152,000 that the adaptation of Welsh’s “Trainspotting” took back in 1996.

“Filth” opens in the UK this week before a European and Asia-Pacific rollout in November. There’s still no word on a U.S. release date as yet.
