The Academy of Motion Pictures has shortened its list of potential best visual effects and best make-up candidates to just seven selections each according to the official site.
These films will compete on January 15th to narrow the list to the final three nominees for Best Achievement in Visual Effects and Best Achievement in Make-Up at February’s Oscars.
Making the effects cut were: Australia, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, The Dark Knight, Hellboy II: The Golden Army, Iron Man, Journey to the Center of the Earth and The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor.
Already it seems ‘Benjamin Button’ and ‘Dark Knight’ are certain locks with ‘Iron Man’ or ‘Hellboy’ vying for the remaining slot.
On the make-up list: The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, The Dark Knight, Hellboy II: The Golden Army, The Reader, Synecdoche New York, Tropic Thunder and The Wrestler.
