Production has officially commenced on Warner Bros. Pictures’ film adaptation of Rudyard Kipling’s classic tale “The Jungle Book”.
Having dropped its ‘Origins’ subtitle and reverting to just “The Jungle Book” as a title, the project is Serkis’ feature directorial debut and isn’t to be confused with the Jon Favreau-directed Disney adaptation.
Serkis’ version is said to be a decidedly darker and more adult affair akin to the book, and much more driven by motion capture performances vs. Disney’s more family-oriented take.
The Serkis version boasts a cast that includes Benedict Cumberbatch as Shere Khan, Cate Blanchett as Kaa, Christian Bale Bagheera, Serkis as Baloo, Peter Mullan as Akela, Tom Hollander as Tabaqui, Naomie Harris as Nisha, Eddie Marsan as Vihaan, Jack Reynor as Mowgli’s Brother Wolf and Rohan Chand as Mowgli.
