Netflix has announced the start of principal photography on “Snowpiercer” director Bong Joon-ho’s new feature “Okja” which will shoot in South Korea, Canada and the US.
Tilda Swinton, Jake Gyllenhaal and Paul Dano star in the film about a young girl (Seohyun An) who must risk everything to prevent a powerful, multi-national company from kidnapping her best friend – a massive animal named ‘Okja’.
Also onboard are Devon Bostick, Lily Collins, Byun Heebong, Byun Heebong, Daniel Henshall, Yoon Je Moon, Choi Wooshik and Steven Yeun.
Bong and Jon Ronson (“Frank”) penned the script for the film which will be shot in both English and Korean. Brad Pitt, Dede Gardner, Jeremy Kleiner, Lewis Taewan Kim, Dooho Choi, Woo-sik Seo and Bong Joon-ho will produce.
A global 2017 Netflix premiere is being targeted, along with a limited day and date theatrical release.
