It comes as no real surprise that Universal Pictures looks to be moving ahead with film adaptations of the rest of E.L. James’ “Fifty Shades” trilogy, even before the first one hits cinemas. Advanced ticket sales for “Fifty Shades of Grey” are breaking records and the movie is all lined up to score a stellar opening this weekend in cinemas worldwide.
During an advance screening of the film in New York City this past Friday, director Sam Taylor-Johnson confirmed the plan is to adapt both “Fifty Shades Darker” and “Fifty Shades Freed” for the screen. Dakota Johnson and Jamie Dornan are likely under contract to return for the films as well, but their involvement was not confirmed by Taylor-Johnson at the time.
Meanwhile the world is buckling down for the impact of the film with UK hardware store chain B&Q advising its staff to be ready for a major rise in customer demand for rope, cable ties and tape according to The Telegraph.
The Independent adds that three leading US cinema chains – AMC, Regal Entertainment and Cinemark – have reportedly requested that cinemagoers don’t bring any props to screenings including whips, ties, ropes or other utensils.
Speaking of props, Lovehoney and posh sex shop Coco De Mer have teamed up for one of the more interesting movie merchandising tie-ins of the year. The ‘Red Room Collection’ is an all-in-one bespoke bondage play set complete with riding crop, flogger, paddle, cane, wrist & ankle cuffs, mouthgag, hog tie, spreader bar and blindfold are included.
