There have been murmurs of a “Zoolander” sequel for several years now, and every time it seems to pick up steam it just as quickly cools down. At this point it is better to assume it isn’t actually happening until they start filming.
When might that be? Sooner than you may think. This week actor Will Ferrell offered a brief update on the status of the long-awaited comedy sequel, and confirmed his evil fashion designer character Mugatu is returning.
Ferrell tells JoBlo: “We are actually supposed to do a read-through of a sequel script soon, and Mugatu is a part of it.” This follows on from an update from Justin Theroux last month who said: “Yeah, we’ve got a script for the sequel, and we’ve just been in talks again. We’re trying to sharpen it and hone it and, actually, I don’t want to jinx anything, but it looks like it actually might be starting to get up and running.”
At last report, the plot will still be dealing with Derek and Hansel trying to reinvent themselves and try to become relevant again as the world has moved on from them.
