Gamescom 2014: Sony's Playstation 4

Whereas Microsoft's presentation this morning for the Xbox One dealt with many pre-announced titles, Sony's press conference briefing this afternoon at the GamesCom 2014 convention in Germany seemed to be focused on newer titles.

There wasn't a shocking announcement ala the "Rise of the Tomb Raider" exclusivity arrangement, but there were quite a few smaller ones starting with the news that the install base of PlayStation 4 has exceeded ten million units sold through to consumers.

Details of the firmware 2.0 update was announced with YouTube sharing and SharePlay being the big features. The latter is sounds like co-op but with remote access - you and your friends can play the same game, even if only one of you owns it. How it works however wasn't quite clear and it will probably be explained better nearer to release.

The stunning first gameplay footage from "Bloodborne" was on display and was a marked improvement over the E3 trailer. Acclaimed Vita game "Tearaway" is being remastered for the PS4 as "Tearaway Unfolded". "Until Dawn" got re-announced and will be made available as a PS4 title, while popular Steam game "Day Z" is exclusively coming to consoles with PlayStation 4.

A bunch of new titles were announced including the very "Alan Wake"-like "The Vanishing of Ethan Carter," a world building game with a Cold War Soviet-style aesthetic called "The Tomorrow Children," the quite pretty primitive civilisation game "Wild," the grimmer "Heavenly Sword"-esque "Hellblade," and titles like "Alienation," "Hollowpoint" and "Volume".
