With the recent Superbowl add showing off more of the alien ships and even a naked Olivia Wilde, EW spoke with “Cowboys and Aliens” director Jon Favreau about some of the scenes we glimpsed.
He hints that we’ve barely scratched the surface in terms of what the film contains – “All the images we’re showing are from the beginning, up to the first half of the film. we’re not showing a lot of where it goes.”
It looks like Native Americans are being harvested by aliens in one scene, to which Favreau responds “I don’t want to get into too much detail of what it is specifically, but it’s an aspect of showing the nightmarish quality of the film. There are heavy stakes and heavy stuff is going on there. [The story] allows the cowboys and Native Americans to come together, which would be impossible had there not been a greater common enemy.”
Wilde’s nudity is also a matter of context, Favreau saying it “actually makes a lot of sense in the course of the movie”.
