Mythos Studios, led by Marvel Studios founding chairman David Maisel and record executive Scooter Braun, has announced it is developing three animated features.
Mythos hopes to create the cinematic universes for animated fare and to event-size stories and attracting more sophisticated and global audiences.
The titles include the Pete Candeland-directed “Cupid” starring Justin Bieber as the voice of Cupid and based on the mythological tale of Cupid and Psyche. “Rio 2” scribe Carlos Kotkin wrote the script from a story by Maisel and the hope is this will launch the MythoVerse with stories and characters inspired by classic Greek and Roman mythology.
The other two are adaptations of the comics “Fathom” and “Soulfire” which will be part of what’s called the TurnerVerse based on the works of the late author Michael Turner. Kevin Adams and Joe Ksander (“Next Gen”) are developing both titles as vehicles.
Kristin Gore is writing “Fathom” which centers around Aspen Matthews, a marine biologist who discovers she is a member of an advanced underwater species.
Bo Yeon Kim and Erika Lippoldt are writing the screenplay for “Soulfire” about an orphan boy who discovers he is the link to a long-forgotten age of magic and with the help of winged goddess Grace, he takes on the dark lord of technology in a quest to bring magic back to the world.
