The first tracking figures are in for the eighth film in the “Fast and Furious” franchise with “The Fate of the Furious” on course to domestically earn between $110-120 million during its three-day opening weekend on April 14th.
That’s a softer start than the previous outing “Furious 7” which snagged a whopping $147 million opening, but ahead of “Fast and Furious 6” which pulled in $97 million in its Friday-Sunday opening weekend run.
With “Fast Five,” the series left behind its formula of a street racing “Point Break” sprinkled with hyper-masculinity and partly self-aware homoeroticism. Instead it adopted a team-centric and physics-defying heist and espionage angle in which the word ‘family’ has become increasingly more than just a noun.
A new clip from the movie has gone online today of a car chase scene in Havana which emphasises the sheer insanity of the action sequences the franchise now gleefully embraces. Check it out below:
