Fassbender-Led “Slow West” Begins Filming

Production has begun in New Zealand on British director John Maclean’s western “Slow West” at Film4, BFI and HanWay Films.

Set in Colorado and the Scottish Highlands at the end of the 19th century, the story follows 17-year-old Jay Cavendish (Kodi Smit-Mcphee) as he travels across the American Frontier in search of the woman he loves.

He’s accompanied on his trip by a mysterious traveller named Silas (Michael Fassbender). Ben Mendelsohn and Caren Pistorius also star.

The project marks Fassbender first feature as a producer. Iain Canning and Emile Sherman (“The King’s Speech,” “Shame”), Rachel Gardner and Conor McCaughan are also producing.

Filming is set to take place on location in New Zealand and Scotland.
