An insanely packed cast has been announced for Jason Reitman’s “The Front Runner,” the upcoming biopic about former Senator Gary Hart.
Hugh Jackman has already been cast as Hart with today’s announcement revealing that Vera Farmiga will play his wife Lee, J.K. Simmons and Tommy Dewey will play his campaign managers, and Molly Ephraim is his scheduler.
Also onboard are Spencer Garrett as gamed Washington Post reporter Bob Woodward and Ari Graynor as the paper’s deputy political editor, Mamoudou Athie as a political reporter, Mike Judge and Steve Zissis as Miami Herald reporters and Kevin Pollak as that paper’s publisher, and Sara Paxton as actress Donna Rice whom Hart had an affair with.
Finally, there’s Alex Karpovsky as Hart’s advance man Mike Stratton, Mark O’Brian as his body man Billy Shore, Josh Brener is a foreign policy advisor, Toby Huss is a Louisiana lobbyist, and Kaitlyn Dever as Hart’s daughter.
Hart served as a U.S. Senator from Colorado from 1975 to 1987, launching two bids for the presidency and was famously a front runner in 1988 until accusations of an extramarital affair hobbled his campaign.
He famously challenged the media to follow him around and see how boring his life was, only for tabloid photographs to emerge of having an affair.
