Fanning Confirms Affleck’s “Night” In December

A few months ago, Warner Bros. Pictures made the surprise change of moving up the Ben Affleck-directed Prohibition-era drama “Live By Night” from an October 20th 2017 to a much sooner January 13th 2017 release.

That puts it in the “American Sniper” release window and likely to be a potential candidate for awards season with an Oscar qualifying run in December looking like a possibility. Warners has yet to officially confirm such a limited run, but now the film’s co-star Elle Fanning tells WWD that its happening.

Asked about the film, she said: “That’s coming out in December, at the end of this year. That was incredible because [Ben] wrote it, he directed it and he’s in it. I had scenes with the director, you know? It’s intimidating. But I would love to direct, so it was cool to see how he works.”

Zoe Saldana, Sienna Miller, Brendan Gleeson and Chris Cooper also star in the Dennis Lehane adaptation of a cop’s son who finds himself slipping into a life of organized crime that takes him from Tampa to Cuba. The actor also has “The Accountant” opening on October 14th and is currently at work on the “Justice League” film.
