Chinese superstar Fan Bingbing, who disappeared for a few months last year due to a much publicised tax-evasion scandal, is going back before the cameras.
Variety indicates filming begins later this year on the action feature “355” with all the originally announced cast – Jessica Chastain, Fan, Lupita Nyong’o, Penelope Cruz and Marion Cotillard – coming together under the helm of Simon Kinberg (“Dark Phoenix”).
The five actresses will all play spies from international agencies who come together and overcome suspicions and conflicts as they battle to stop a global organization from thrusting the world into chaos. Along the way, strangers and enemies become comrades and friends, and a new spy sisterhood is formed.
Theresa Rebeck penned the script. The $75 million film has lost the backing of China’s Huayi Brothers Media so it’s not clear how the all-female spy thriller is being financed. A start date announcement with full details is expected to be forthcoming.
