Fan Bingbing (“X-Men: Days of Future Past”) is set to join Jason Statham in the giant prehistoric shark tale “Meg” which Warner Bros. Pictures has locked in to a March 2nd 2018 release date. That will see the film face off with the Shane Black-directed “The Predator” which opens on the same day.
In the film a Chinese-led international underwater observation program goes awry with a deep-sea submersible lying disabled at the bottom of the Mariana Trench. With time running out to rescue the survivors, former Naval Captain and expert deep sea diver Jonas Taylor (Statham) is recruited by Dr. Zhang Suyin, lead oceanographer of the program, for what is likely a suicide mission.
Years before, Taylor had encountered this same terrifying threat, which forced him to abort his mission and abandon half his crew, resulting in a dishonorable discharge. Now, Taylor must confront his fears and risk his own life to save everyone trapped below … bringing him face to face once more with the apex predator – the Carcharodon megalodon, the ancestor of the great white shark and a creature so large it can tear apart a Tyrannosaurus Rex in seconds.
Based on Steve Alten’s novel, the movie will be directed by Jon Turteltaub (“National Treasure”) helms from a script by Dean Georgaris. Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Colin Wilson will produce.
