Famuyiwa Helms New Uptown Saturday Night

Rick Famuyiwa (“Dope,” “Confirmation”) is set to direct the Kevin Hart-led remake of 1974 buddy comedy “Uptown Saturday Night” at Warner Bros. Pictures.

Sidney Poitier and Bill Cosby led the original as two friends who visit a high-end, underworld nightclub where they get robbed and have to go searching for a winning lottery ticket.

“Black-ish” creator Kenya Barris wrote the most recent draft of the remake and will produce alongside Hart, Will Smith, James Lassiter and John Cheng.

Famuyiwa beat out Malcolm D. Lee who was in talks but is now busy on the “Space Jam” sequel.
