Fans around the world participated in a live-cast fan event last night (U.S. time) for “The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug”. Filmmaker Peter Jackson was originally planning to show off five minutes of footage from the second film, instead he brought a twenty minute reel. Three minutes from that reel has gone online and you can check it out below:
The clip and footage showcased various key scenes from the giant spider attack in Mirkwood, the barrel scene, Gandalf visiting the haunted fortress of Dol Guldur, and parts of Bilbo’s entry into Smaug’s vault.
A one-hour Q&A session with Jackson and various cast members around the globe took place. In short, filming is now done on the trilogy. This year’s round of additional shooting took ten weeks and dealt mostly with the third film, but also involved some scenes from ‘Smaug’. The full Q&A is online and can be seen below:
Jackson has also posted his latest production diary video from the film, this one focusing on the pickup shooting over the Summer along with the post-production on the second film.
