Some more comments from Taika Waititi at the Sundance Film Festival are in with the filmmaker discussing one aspect of the “Thor: Ragnarok” production that hasn’t been talked about before now – namely how smart and verbose he intends to make the green meanie in the film.
Waititi tells Hitfix that the topic is in discussions right now and that it also ties in with the “Avengers: Infinity War” saga with the director implying Marvel wants to go that route in those films:
“It’s interesting, because at the moment, there’s a big conversation that’s happening about how far to push that. Whether or not The Hulk should be [verbal/conscious]… I think a lot of those conversations have more to do with what’s going to come up in future movies. So I think a lot of those decisions are larger group decisions, rather than anything to do with just me or the writer. They have a lot of stuff that they have to consider. But I do think that’s the best way to track it. I think we all want that. I think we all want to see that development and the evolution of that character. I also think you can do it in a fun way.”
Waititi also touched upon the involvement of Tom Hiddleston’s Loki in the film and whether he’ll be given a bit of a short shrift this time out. Not at all says Waititi:
“He’s such a big part of it, and he’s such a great part of it. My focus really is making sure that Thor is the best character, though… that is my goal! Because he’s got to be. And it should be that way.”
In a separate interview with SHH, he spoke about the Norse end of the world that forms the film title:
“I started reading about the actual Norse Ragnarok and that’s even more insane than the comics. Crazy! But that’s what I’m going to really concentrate on, really make an effort to change the entire thing. For me, I want to treat this as if it was the first Thor film, so we’re going to redo it. You just have to flip it and freshen it up, like anything. It’s also part of a very well-established universe right now, but that’s why they got me. This is the cool thing is that anything goes in these early stages, ideas-wise, and we really are in the early stages.”
Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston, Jaimie Alexander, Mark Ruffalo, Cate Blanchett and Anthony Hopkins star in “Thor: Ragnarok” which is set for release November 3rd 2017.
