Of all the changes George Lucas made to his “Star Wars” special edition films in the 1990s, no single action was more talked about than the cantina scene in which the infamous exchange between Han Solo (Harrison Ford) and Greedo (Paul Blake) was changed in a way that impacted the whole scene.
Fans want it restored, actor John Boyega wants it too, and more recently the original script proved Han did shoot first in the scene. Now even Blake himself, who donned the mask, wants the original scene restored. Speaking with the New York Daily News about the upcoming documentary “Elstree 1976,” Blake indicates he was upset with the change – mostly as it makes his character seem even more incompetent at his job:
“He was a bit inept wasn’t he? He’s a worse shot than a Stormtrooper. I don’t think Jabba had him under a pension plan, let’s put it that way. It would be lovely to see them go back to the original version, I much preferred it, I must say. And it does give it Greedo a little more glory if he’s just blown away.”
There’s still no word whether Disney will ever release the original theatrical cuts.
