She slays Orcs galore in the just released “The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies,” but actress Evangeline Lilly has more recently been working on Marvel Studios’ “Ant-Man”.
In a new interview with CNN for “The Hobbit,” Lilly spoke about her role of Hope Van Dyne in “Ant-Man” and how the film is essentially one big heist movie which links back to other Marvel Studios movies in one key way:
POTENTIAL MINOR SPOILER AHEAD
“I’ve been astounded to discover how good to their teams and crew that Marvel are. They’re so collaborative, so smart with their stories. They have rich, dynamic characters which are so much fun to play. I expected I’d be a cog in the wheel of a big machine – I wasn’t sure I’d like this experience. But I’ve been so astounded at how pleasurable the whole experience has been.
[Hope] is the daughter of the founders of The Avengers, Ant-Man and the Wasp. She is a very talented, intelligent, capable woman and a force to be reckoned with.
[Ant-Man] is very much a heist film. It has all the fun, tension and drama of a good heist film. The heist is being masterminded by myself, my father and Scott Lang.”
Hope in the film is the daughter of Hank and Janet Van Dyne, with Michael Douglas taking on the role of Hank in the movie for the action set in contemporary times. There’s a rumored flashback to the 1960s and Lilly’s quote suggests that the scene could deal with the formation of the Avengers initiative and tie this otherwise seemingly standalone crime thriller back into the larger Marvel cinematic universe.
“Ant-Man” is scheduled to hit cinemas on July 17th 2015.
