With “Furious 7” having scored a whopping $384 million in ticket sales around the globe in its first weekend alone, the already mega successful series has now entered the kind of box-office league rarely held by films that aren’t a part of the Marvel universe.
Before Paul Walker’s death, “Furious 7” was reportedly designed as the start of a new trilogy. In the wake of that tragic event, the original ending was changed around and closed off so the film would end serving as a fitting tribute to Walker’s memory.
That said, “Fast and Furious 8” is expected to pick up some storyline elements. Along with the New York City setting for some of the action, Kurt Russell’s character is also expected back to play a bigger part in the action. Today though comes word of another returnee, courtesy of El Mayimbe:
“FAST & FURIOUS 8 #RUMOR With #fast7 now in the record books, the upcoming NY based #Fast8 story will depend on whether they can bring back Eva Mendes’ character: US Customs Agent Monica Fuentes.”
Mendes’ character was the female lead in “2 Fast 2 Furious,” and had a cameo in a mid-credit sequence during “Fast Five” where it was revealed Michelle Rodriguez’s character was still alive and thus setting up “Fast and Furious 6”.
