Cynthia Erivo (“Widows,” “Bad Times at the El Royale”) and Josh Gad (“Beauty and the Beast,” “Frozen”) are teaming up for a new untitled musical spin on classic American folk tale Rip Van Winkle at Warner Bros. Pictures.
Washington Irving penned the original short story penned around the time of the American Revolution that helped lend a mythic air to colonial America. The story follows a villager who falls asleep only to wake up decades later, missing the American Revolution. Specifics of this take are under wraps.
Amanda Idoko (“Plastic Man”) will write the script based off of Gad’s idea while the songwriting team of Kate Anderson and Elissa Samsel (“Olaf’s Frozen Adventure”) will pen the numbers while Gad, Dan Lin and Jonathan Eirich will produce.
