EPIX has handed out a ten-episode order for “Get Shorty,” a TV series reimagining of Elmore Leonard’s 1990 bestselling thriller comedy novel which was previously adapted into the 1995 John Travolta film.
Written by Davey Holmes, the story centers on Miles Daly who works as muscle for a murderous crime ring in Nevada. For the sake of his daughter, he attempts to change professions and become a movie producer, laundering money through a Hollywood film. But instead of leaving the criminal world behind, he ends up bringing it with him to Los Angeles.
The hourlong dark comedy series marks the third original scripted series for the network currently in development, ‘Shorty’ joining Paramount TV’s “Berlin Station” and Lionsgate TV’s “Graves”. Those two will premiere this Fall, with ‘Shorty’ to debut next Summer.
