“Empire” Droid Returns For “Mandalorian”

Empire Droid Returns For Mandalorian

As a bit of a Christmas present to “Star Wars” fans, filmmaker Jon Favreau has posted a photo confirming that IG-88 is set to be a part of the upcoming live-action series “The Mandalorian” for the Disney+ streaming service.

This character was featured briefly in “The Empire Strikes Back” along with several other bounty hunters including Boba Fett, Dengar, Bossk, Zuckuss and 4-LOM. Its involvement in the new series is unclear, but there have been rumors that at least some of those bounty hunters will be popping up.

The series, the first live-action “Star Wars” series produced, is set in the wake of the events of “Return of the Jedi”. We follow the travails of a lone gunfighter in the outer reaches of the galaxy far from the authority of the New Republic.

Pedro Pascal, Gina Carano, Nick Nolte, Giancarlo Esposito, Carl Weathers and Werner Herzog co-star in the show which is expected to debut in late 2019.
