Actress Emmy Rossum is set to exit Showtime’s “Shameless” after the upcoming ninth season. Showtime and show producer Warner Bros. TV confirmed her exit from the series following an emotional letter penned by Rossum on social media on Thursday.
She closed out the letter with the words: “I know you will continue on without me, for now. There is much more Gallagher story to be told. I will always be rooting for my family. Try not to think of me as gone, just think of me as moving down the block.”
Despite her exit, the show is almost certain to continue with the series pulling off the rare feat of pulling in its best numbers yet at a time when most series end their runs or are struggling to retain a fraction of their earlier audience.
Series regulars Cameron Monaghan, Emma Kenney, Ethan Cutkosky, Jeremy White, Shanola Hampton, Steve Howey, and William H. Macy are all expected to stay on beyond the ninth season which premieres Sunday September 9th.
