Emily Browning Joins Starz’ “American Gods”

Emily Browning (“Legend,” “Sucker Punch”) will take on the key role of Laura Moon, wife of leading character Shadow Moon (Ricky Whittle) in Starz’s adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s fantasy novel “American Gods” which begins filming next month.

The story centers on a war brewing between old and new gods: the gods of biblical and mythological roots who are losing believers to a new pantheon reflecting society’s modern love of money, technology, media, celebrity and drugs.

Shadow Moon is an ex-con who becomes bodyguard to Mr. Wednesday (Ian McShane), a con man who is in reality one of the older gods who is on a cross-country mission to gather his forces in preparation for a battle with the new deities.

Laura Moon has been preparing for her husband’s pending prison release, unaware she will go on an unexpected journey that leads her to an epiphany about her relationship and affords her a second chance to get things right.

Bryan Fuller (“Hannibal”) and Michael Green (“The River”) will pen the script and serve as showrunners while David Slade (“Hannibal”) will direct the pilot and additional episodes.
